Whether you run DEON on-premises in your own data center or use our sovereign cloud through strictly certified German partners (such as IONOS or STACKIT) – your data never leaves the European legally protected space.

Why US providers remain a risk

Many large US software vendors and hyperscalers actively promote their „GDPR compliance“ and refer to their own server locations in Europe. However, regarding data sovereignty there is a decisive legal difference:
Even if US companies use European servers, as US corporations they are inevitably subject to US law. In concrete terms, this means that US authorities can demand access to customer data under laws such as the US CLOUD Act or FISA 702 , even if this data is physically located in the EU. The current EU-US Data Privacy Framework is intended to facilitate transatlantic data exchange, but for highly sensitive business and government data, even this agreement does not offer complete protection against potential access.
